The Pardoner Tells a Tale The Pardoner Tells a Tale

Rated 1.5 / 5 stars October 29, 2009

Extreme disconnects

For starters was the song even necessary? I mean it did nothing to further the message really. That said, if you choose to use music please choose a higher quality file, dear lord I guess if I'd used my laptops speakers I wouldn't have noticed. but I wasn't so I did.
Also the "animation" is basically flipping between still images.
The message was disjointed at best, the information you wanted to convey could have been conveyed much more quickly and concisely, rather than through your ramblings.
Also I don't think Jesus(I'm assuming that's who was depicted) had anything to do with purchasing pardons, that was the work of the papacy if I remember correctly.

not sure if this is the correct place for this

Excuse me if my interpretation of this is incorrect, but while the idea of a memorial to someone is sentimental. I'm unsure as to why it should/needs to be published. Memorial status doesn't seem to confer instant acceptance onto NG, as such it should have to stand on its own animation/sound, however there really isn't any of that.

Look at my hair Look at my hair

Rated 2 / 5 stars October 28, 2009

so-so

I guess you got challenged to use the voice so if the hair's laugh was more annoying than anything else I suppose I can only hold you half accountable. That said, poor voice acting in certain places can really ruin a piece, something to keep in mind for the future.
Finally work could be done to make thsi piece more substantive.

To call it a game is to stretch english.

Look, I'm sure this review will get removed however I feel that 1) it is valid (The author of the materials impression of it's audience, if negative should be changed in order to make the game better) and 2) needs to be said.
I've seen an influx of games from "allforgirls" or "gamesforgirls".
For starters about all these games are dress up games and don't have a whole lot of depth. Or really anything going for them. They seem like a way to make a quick buck off ad revenue, not on providing a quality flash.
Secondly While I hate to be that guy who calls the sexism card, I feel that this is one of those cases. the moniker of the submitter says it all. Why should a game be defined based on gender? The point is to submit something good, and given that I don't assume that my standards are somehow arbitrarily defined by my gender, then the assumption that this game will only appeal to girls implies that the creator feels that either a) all guys will hate things that are cute. or b) all girls love cute things. Neither of which is a very appropriate assumption.

Are these games just not "for" me? is that why I dislike it? or is it because they are attempting to disguise a total lack of anything resembling valid content beneath the argument that they are just "4grrls"?

eehh

Find a more original idea, I'm not meaning to be harsh but if I waned to play bejewled I would just play bejewled, A reskinning of the game while a fun project to flex your coding muscles is fine. But that doesn't necessarily make it newgrounds worthy.

The Ugly Fat Guy Game! The Ugly Fat Guy Game!

Rated 0 / 5 stars October 27, 2009

deficient in all departments

artistry, needs work.
Coding is beyond needing work, hell I've programmed better in Qbasic after minimal time spent with the language.
sound? what sound, artistry is still bad, oh did I already mention that? well it needed restating.
And to summarize, you have momentum when you jump! you continue to move forward despite the fact that you have in fact gained height. I'm not sure what you are expecting by resubmitting this piece.

Missing something

Eh, I like what you have going on, but you could almost add another trumpet on top of what you have now. You have a very good baseline but it needs something to keep the song from going really stale after the first 30 seconds or so.

Rottenbeard responds:

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind on future projects.
